You can’t just eat good food. You’ve got to talk about it too. And you’ve got to talk about it to somebody who understands that kind of food. – Kurt Vonnegut
A couple of weeks ago I was in Detroit, Michigan for my line sister’s wedding. I decided to venture out yet again to find some of the best African food in the nation, and took along a couple of my line sisters who were also in town for the wedding. To say that our minds were blown is an understatement.
We went to this hole in the wall – Maty’s African Cuisine – Detroit’s only Senegalese restaurant that started a year ago after the owner, Amady, and his wife were encouraged by his friends to start their business. Within their first year, the business has grown rapidly with people from all over the city coming to dine for a quick bit and get into the deliciousness of their Senegalese cuisine. And let me tell you why – it’s because of the bomb yassa they are serving up. Wow o wow!
Every single item was honest to goodness extremely yummy. I have never had red snapper that was as yummy as that at Maty’s – I legit at it to the bones because every single piece of it was amazing. If you have not watched it already, check out my IGTV interview with Amady.
And when you are in Detroit, pretty please head over to Maty’s African Cuisine – tell them Adebisi sent you. No time to drive in? Order in – they are on Uber Eats!
I am wearing this super cute V-neck puff sleeve made by House of Faye. I wanted a touch of Ankara, so the bodice is made of black faux satin.
