Watta!

"Suppose a nation in some distant Region should take the Bible or their only law Book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited! Every member would be obliged in conscience, to temperance, frugality, and industry; to justice, kindness, and charity towards his fellow men; and to piety, love, and reverence toward Almighty God ... What a Eutopia, what a Paradise would this region be."
- Diary and Autobiography of John Adams, Vol. III, p. 9

This dress is so vibrant. Watta looks joyful and beautiful.

Happy Days

"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." - Oprah Winfrey

Mini-peplum skirt. She's so adorable.

Hope everyone is safe and sound, and has escaped any wrath of Hurricane Sandy. Stay safe and dry everyone.

Regal

"...Your Face Mirrors Your Heart..."

This lovely lady is my hair stylist (and I use the word lovely loosely...she tried to fight me before she let me take these pictures, haha).  She looks totally regal in this dress.  It reminds me of Jennifer Lopez's Jackie O dress from the 2003 Academy Awards.  Have a fabulous week, everyone.

Wings

"...What is hidden is more interesting than what is obvious..."

I remember when this girl used to be a tiny little baby. Time literally waits for no one.
Abi's dress style is very different, and is solely for the daring.

Statuesque

"Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart." -Steve Jobs

That quote is very raw, but it is so true...I love it.

Power shoulders and faux peplum skirt.

Tube top dress with a one-shoulder chiffon overlay. Very nice and clean shape.

It Takes Two

"I'm not one for formulas. I believe God is very creative, but I believe examples [of others'] encourage us & remind us to trust God." -Heather Lindsey
These two sisters-in-law took the very traditional buba and iro (shirt and wrapper skirt) and wore it in the modern style...mini.  Even the sleeves are shorter than the traditional style.

Hope you all enjoyed your long weekend.

Kente

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." John 15:13, NKJV

Hello, all. Happy Independence Day to my fellow Naija people. I hope and pray that we continue to grow and strive for the best as a individuals and as a nation.

I wore this outfit out and about with friends.  My sorority sister purchased the Kente for me when she was studying abroad in Ghana last year, and I just got around to making something with it.  (Much to my surprise, I had many people comment on the pants stating they loved them because they were well fitted... my seamstress made that as well.)

Another sorority sister and I were on lunch break that day and decided to have an insane photoshoot at the park near the White House.  She literally snapped a photo of my every move. I think I selected the pictures where I look most... presentable. =D

Have a great day, yall.

Okay, I did manage to get one crazy picture in there.

Taking these photos was way too much fun...and slightly dangerous.

I wore it with a blazer, flats, and a pashmina to work.  Please excuse the raggedness of the scarf. She and I were still cracking up before this was snapped.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

“We plan our lives according to a dream that came to us in our childhood, and we find that life alters our plans. And yet, at the end, from a rare height, we also see that our dream was our fate. It’s just that providence had other ideas as to how we would get there. Destiny plans a different route, or turns the dream around, as if it were a riddle, and fulfills the dream in ways we couldn’t have expected.” – Ben Okri
