One for the Team

"All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life.  The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today." -Ralph Ransom

This story of my fellow Gates Millennium Scholar reassures people of all ages where hard work, perseverance, and determination can lead you.  His resilience to be his best is simply what allowed him to be the best...and it has sure paid off.

"How 22 year old Nigerian Emmanuel Ohuabunwa broke academic records and made history at Johns Hopkins University"
Every year, thousands of young Nigerians travel to the United States to study.  While many do well, only a very select few graduate top of their entire university class.  22 year old Emmanuel Ohuabunwa is one of these select few.  However, his story doesn't stop there.  Not only did he graduate top of his class at Johns Hopkins University, he made history by becoming the first black man to do so in the university's history!

A Tradition Not Meant To Be Broken

"No one can promise that they will never hurt you because one time or another they will, the real promise is if the time you spent together will be worth the pain in the end." -???

My sister posted this picture to my FB wall a couple of weeks back, and I thought it was one of the cutest pictures ever (she says I'm the one on the right with the natural hair- haha :).  Then sometime last week I happen to roll upon the same picture on another site. What I did not realize the first time I saw it was that there was a link to many more pictures, which depicts the Yoruba [tribe of Nigeria] traditional wedding ceremony. The details from the attire all the way to actions of the dolls are so precise and peculiar.

Have a look for yourselves at Black Barbie's Wedding. Take a minute to read the story. It is well documented.

Appropriate music for the occasion. Enjoy!
Have a great day. xx

The Power of Color

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me." - I Corinthians 13:11

This morning someone really made me want to jump out of my skin, and act out of character.  But the good grace of God helped me to regain my composure so I would not lose it. I am so uncertain why people believe it is appropriate to behave in such ignorant manners, but it gets to point in every adult's life, when he or she must begin to act like Not every battle is worth the fight.

Jumpin', Jumpin'

"God determines who walks into your's up to you to decide who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go." -???

My friend here had a modernized jumpsuit made, and wore it to church last Sunday. Very simple, but very chic.

Hope you have a fabulous day.

"When you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack." - Winston Churchill

Below is my mentee in a dress she had made for a fashion show she was in for her school.  Two different fabrics were in the dress to give contrast and and more detail.
I absolutely adore.

This is my new favorite video courtesy of my friend... It reminds me of dancing in Paris! (=
Have a fabulous weekend, everyone. xx

The Comeback Kid

"Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.” - Winston Churchill

Hello Everyone!

Hope all is well with everyone. Please forgive me for my hiatus- it was completely unintentional.  I was finishing up my Masters program, and I am extremely happy to be done with school and so excited for the summer. I am thrilled to be back here with you all posting for Beese's Pieces, and have some wonderfulness coming your way.  Let's make Summer 2012 one to remember.
